Enhanced protection in the workplace with antimicrobial surface coatings
Since the beginning of the pandemic, many of our business customers and schools have added an extra layer of protection to their premises with antimicrobial surface coating. The good news is that the manufacturer of the product we use has had independent testing which confirmed that it provides antiviral protection against SARS-CoV-2 (which is the human strain of Coronavirus), with faster inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 compared to untreated surfaces. Previous viral testing to ISO 21702:2019 standards showed that the TGEV Coronavirus (a model virus for SARS-CoV) was reduced by 99.8% in 8 hours when our antimicrobial coating was applied.
The manufacturers said that in addition to its effectiveness against other enveloped viruses, independent laboratory testing shows our preferred product provides an additional measure of hygiene between cleaning/disinfection cycles. The surface actively neutralises SARS-Cov-2 as well as enveloped viruses and other commonly found bacteria including E.Coli, MRSA, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, reducing the spread of infections.
How does it work?
Once the antimicrobial coating has dried, it creates a layer of ‘nano-spikes’. These spikes are positively charged and will pull the microbes towards them, impaling each microbe on the nano-spike which kills them straight away. The speed of the kill means the microbe doesn’t have a chance to mutate and the infection chain is broken. Clever stuff!
Extensively tested and ISO certified, the coating has shown great resistance to everyday use – for example it continues to be effective on glass even after 40,000 wipe cycles! This means it lasts for a long time and it’s recommended that you only need to reapply it once a year.
Antimicrobial protection
Our antimicrobial surface coating offers 24/7 protection for at least a year, even on high traffic areas such as door handles and bannister rails etc. It can be used virtually everywhere including on fabrics, keyboards, tables, school playground equipment, screens, shopping trolleys and baskets, in kitchens, bathrooms etc. Click here to watch a short application process video.
Keep cleaning!
However, this fantastic solution doesn’t mean we can relax our cleaning regimes. Sadly, antimicrobial surface coating does not prevent the build-up of regular dust and dirt. So, although it is an important element in the fight against microbes and bacteria, you must continue to take steps to help keep your premises COVID-secure as well as protecting staff, patients, customers, students and visitors from other germs, bacteria and bad odours.
Peace of mind
As with all services, check if there is a workmanship guarantee and ask if your provider is an approved applicator. You should also ask for previous case studies.
Are surface tests available?
Before you commence any work, why not consider an ATP test to check the bacteria levels in the workplace before application. This will provide a clear picture of how effective your current cleaning regime is before the application of the antimicrobial surface coating. The test is performed again once the antimicrobial product has been applied… and you’ll be amazed at the results!
